Cats are quite the amazing creatures. They are independent, self sufficient, and clever. Because of these qualities, many people feel that they do not require the same level of care as other domestic animals such as dogs. In the abuse arena, cats are tied in animals studies to be one of the animal grouping which are most likely to be abandoned and/or used for product testing . And worse yet, often they are left to live on their own, continue breeding feral colonies and carry and pass on serious diseases. A single cat, left un-neutered or un-spayed, can perpetuate their bloodline in their lifetime to the tune of 65,000 offspring. This is an amazing and unacceptable statistic.

Equally unacceptable are the stories like that which occurred in Chesapeake, Virginia in the fall of 1999, where a beautiful female cat came willingly to four boys who proceeded to commit unthinkable terror and cruelty. They used her as a tug-of-war toy, and committed other awful physical abuse. Even when her pitiful battered body was mercifully dead, her suffering was not at an end when they further mutilated her. Although criminal charges were filed against 3 of the 4 boys* involved, and it made national media, hundreds of animal abuse incidences go unreported and un-prosecuted every day.

*Studies show that children who commit violent crimes against animals are more likely to become adults who perform similar acts on people.

Animal crimes like this one proves tragic consequences, so animal cruelty should NEVER be ignored. Facts show some of the more notorious murderers of our times were animal abusers.

Remember, in the civilized world, the welfare of animals is a responsibility of humans. Stop animal abuse at all costs!
